Earlier this month, we were lucky enough to have a chat to Barnaby Reiter in an Instagram Live video from the Big Apple! And although his phone froze up in Times Square because of how cold it was over there, we still managed to get his answers to your questions! So without further ado, here they are!
1. When you were growing up, what did you think you wanted to do with your life?
I've been really fortunate to know what I've wanted to do since I was about 6! Once, I played 'Bear' in my Kindergarten production of "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" and that was it for me! I also thought about being a Paediatrician because I love kids but the possibility of reprising my role as 'Bear' again was just too exciting.
2. If you could tell your teenage self one thing, what would it be?
Look. After. Yourself. You can't sing if you're tired, you can't dance if you're sore and you can't act if you're not centred. Know that rest can be JUST as productive as another singing lesson, dance class or acting class!
3. What music are you listening to at the moment?
I pretty much only listen to musical theatre... BUT Ben Platt released 3 singles recently which I'm in love with so I've been listening to them a lot too!
4. Have you ever been starstruck meeting someone famous?
I've met some incredible people and I have been so surprised at how wonderful every single person has been and how cool and "normal" I was around them... except when I met Megan Mullally (Karen Walker from Will and Grace). I think because I knew it was coming for MONTHS, I just built it up to be this big thing in my head. I had planned how we were going to become best friends and start our own show together... then the day came, I was walking towards her, she extended her hand and said "Hi! My name's Megan" to which I replied "hgnmenhbsmaba". We took a photo and she left.
5. With all that you've done in your life, any goals you're still yet to achieve?
Be in a Broadway show... which I don't think is very far off... 🙊 that, and have kids! That's what I want more than anything else!
6. When you have a day off, what's your favourite thing to do?
Day off? What is that? I joke! I've learnt my lesson! Its funny I get this question today because I am a little under the weather and have forced myself to take the day off. So far, I have binged nearly an entire season of Parks and Recreation on Netflix, I went to the gym and did a beginner Yoga class to look after my body, I've taken about 12 naps and now I'm sipping coffee in a warm coffee shop replying to emails and being on vocal rest - #bliss.
7. Who inspires you?
Neil Patrick Harris is my #1. The way he conducts himself both on camera/stage and in real life is a real inspiration to me. Especially being in the LGBTI community, the way that he lives a normal life and just does amazing work and is a wonderful dad without it being an issue is exactly what I want to do!
8. Favourite movie you've seen in the last year?
"The Spy Who Dumped Me" HANDS DOWN! I fell off my chair in the cinema I was laughing so hard! Then I tried to watch it again on the plane recently and was laughing too hard I was waking people up and had to stop!
9. Best advice you ever received?
You are enough. You are SO enough. It is UNBELIEVABLE how enough you are. That AND "if it's not fun, it's not acting/singing or dancing"!
10. Read any good books lately?
Reading puts me to sleep! Seriously like 2 pages and I'm OUT! But I listen to audio books a lot when I walk? I love autobiographies! Top recommendations include: Patti Lupone, Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Neil Patrick Harris and Alan Cumming!
So there you have it, Youngharts! Straight from NYC! Stay tuned for more next month!
