This month’s Youngharts Spotlight is shining on Charlie from Adelaide!
We first met Charlie back in 2016 when he was part of the mass ensemble for Harvest Rain’s production of HAIRSRPAY - THE BIG FAT ARENA SPECTACULAR at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. He was ten years old and loved to dress up and create wonderful characters like ‘Princess Ava’ in her sparkling ball gown. On his first day of rehearsals alongside Simon Burke who played Edna Turnblad, Charlie sent his mum this text:
Now it’s 2019 and we have learnt that Charlie has successfully auditioned to attend the Joffrey Ballet School’s Summer Intensive Programs in Musical Theatre in New York City! The program involves training by current Broadway performers in ballet, tap, jazz, vocal and acting. What an experience! “This has been a self-directed goal of Charlie’s for some time, but it is going to take a village to get him there” says his mother, Catherine. Charlie plans to travel for the month of June, but until then, he needs our help! His mother has set up a Go-Fund-Me page to raise $4,000 to assist with the tuition fees, travel and accommodation expenses. If you have a dollar to spare (or a few) please consider helping our fellow young creative artist.
