The WIZARD OF OZ Stars Answer Your Q's!

Hey Youngharts!

This month at Youngharts Central, Kat and Shaun sat down with the stars of Harvest Rain's THE WIZARD OF OZ ARENA SPECTACULAR! We asked them all the questions you wanted to hear the answers to and you're going to be blown away by their responses!

1. When you were growing up, what did you think you wanted to do with your life?

Carly Bettinson (Dorothy): I think something involving singing, owning a horse and getting to meet Taylor Swift. Now that I write it, I guess I haven't really changed that much...

Michael Nunn (Tin Man): We had a yearbook at the end of primary school and one of the questions was 'what do you want to be when you grow up?' and I remember having to think about it quite a lot. In the end I answered "a book writer or an actor" (Can we take a second - book writer? It's called an author sweetie!) I suppose I always enjoyed entertaining, and have always wanted that to be a big part of my life.

2. If you could tell yourself one thing, what would it be?

Josh Whitten (Lion): Believe in yourself and don't be afraid of failing. You're a lot more talented than you realise! Also, stop being so hard on yourself.

Chris Geoghegan (Scarecrow): The best thing you can do is to be completely yourself. Some people might not understand it, but one day you will find a tribe of those who do and they will embrace it!

3. Who inspires you?

Chris: I find this a hard question. I don't have a favourite singer, actor or celebrity. I try to find positives in everyone and I think I am drawn to people and figures who inspire kindness, love and strength. But I really want to see Celine Dion in concert because she is AMAZING!

Michael: I find inspiration in so many places and things. To narrow it down to one almost seems criminal! But for the purposes of short and sweet, I follow a whole bunch of artists on Instagram and the really inspire me every single day. I think what I like most is seeing the intense variety of peoples' interests and passions, and that they are all so great at what they do. (It's also really nice not to have a whole feed full of selfies!)

4. When you have a day off, what's your favourite thing to do?

Carly: I like to design houses on Sims 4 and also what documentaries about tiny houses. I guess I really enjoy all house related content. I try to listen to my body when I have time off and give it what it needs whether that be sleep, good nutrition, time with my family or exercise. Sometimes its staying in bed and watching a movie!

Josh: I like sleeping in, catching up with friends or family, eating great food and laughing!

5. Have you ever been starstruck meeting someone famous?

Carly: One time I saw Dame Julie Andrews at QPAC and it was truly a magical moment. I definitely cried. In saying that, I try not to idolise people too much, but instead try and understand that they are normal people too! It's good to remember you too are capable of greatness just like anyone you might look up to.

Michael: I wouldn't say I was starstruck, no. I've been very lucky in getting to work alongside some amazing celebrities over the last few years, and it's been incredible meeting and getting to know them, but I think at the end of the day when you meet somebody famous, you keep in mind that they're just a person, and they started out just like you did. So obviously there's a huge amount of respect that comes along with it, but I find that you connect with them better when you treat them like normal human beings.

6. Lastly, what is the best advice you have ever received?

Chris: Beginnings often hide themselves in ends.

Josh: Almost every acting teacher or director I have ever had (and it applies to life as well) has said to never be afraid to make mistakes. Take risks and be bold in your choices. We learn the most from our mistakes and if you take risks and be bold, that's where the magic happens!
