Whilst Harvest Rain's 'Grease the Arena Experience' was happening in Sydney earlier this year, one of the Mass Ensemble members, Elizabeth severley injured herself during the final dress rehearsal, and was unable to perform in the show. The Youngharts Network wanted to keep Elizabeth's dream of performing in the show alive, so here's what we did...
"Performing on stage is a passion of mine, and having had the opportunity to rehearse and perform in the Harvest Rain Theatre production of Grease in Sydney was amazing. I met so many like-minded performers there and forged some long-term friendships.
During the final dress rehearsal however, I dislocated my kneecap on stage and as a result, could not perform. Cast and crew were very caring, and Tim O’Connor the CEO of the Harvest Rain Theatre Company invited my whole family to watch the closing performance with him! It was fantastic and I also met the lead cast and enjoyed photos with my fellow cast members. I was also given the opportunity to do an interview for the YoungHarts network and Tim surprised me with the offer of flying and staying in Melbourne to perform down there, when my knee would then be better.
While my injury was devastating at the time, there is always a positive side to life - I got to see everyone have a good time out on stage and witness the result of their hard work paying off. Also getting the opportunity to perform filled my heart with joy, and it was at that moment, when I learned that when you look for the good in life, you receive good things back.
Fast forward, after months of physiotherapy, I was able to fly with my mother to Melbourne and perform at Hisense Arena! The Melbourne experience was different, as I was totally focused on rehearsals and performing, and I had the opportunity to meet other cast and crew and spend more time with them. I also learned more about musical theatre in Melbourne after speaking with the head of the BAMT Academy. Also, while there, I was asked to interview on two national television channels for Grease The Arena Experience, which I am very grateful. I never knew that in my life all of this would have happened, and I am so very thankful for the opportunities given to me, and it is companies like Harvest Rain and the YoungHarts Network who foster young talent, that really help young people realise their dreams.
If you are a young person that loves to perform and has a dream, I encourage you to get involved, because they are truly amazing and help young people like me achieve their dreams. Thank you YoungHarts Network! " - Elizabeth Percopo
